BARRIER SPECIFIC SKILLS TRAINING AND INCLUSION
This project falls in line with the Millennium Goal No 2 of Universal
Primary Education for All as well as the United Nations Convention on
the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Article 24.2(d) ie “persons
with disabilities are able to receive the support required within the
general education system, to facilitate their effective education.”
White Paper 6 (2001) on Inclusive Education aims to ensure quality education
for learners with barriers to learning including those living with disabilities.
In July of 2010 SAALED was requested by the Gauteng Department of Inclusive
Education as well as with the endorsement of the National Department
of Inclusive Education, to train educators, parents, class assistants
and voluntary workers on specific barriers to learning due to disability,
to enable effective inclusion.

be trained by experts in the different disability fields as well as
an experienced educator providing specific focus on classroom accommodation
and support. At least 40 previously disadvantaged delegates per training
