Anxiety around Mathematics is defined as feelings of tension and anxiety that interfere with the manipulation of numbers and the solving of mathematical problems. Math anxiety can cause one to forget and lose one’s self-confidence. Decreasing anxiety around maths in the classroom is something that we all need to be cognisant of.

It is time to think about the routines in our classroom and whether we are rewarding speed or depth of thinking. Encouraging children and teaching them about the importance of knowing how they got to the answer rather than the answer itself.
