Thank you to Ruth Everson for her gentle and inspirational presentation on ‘Poetry: A Tool for Hope and Healing’. I have already rewatched the presentation via the recording as it was so meaningful and powerful. The audience was rivetted throughout the beautiful presentation and we left determined to pay attention to the world!

Some reflections received from participants were: “A passionate and personal presentation that kept me riveted throughout”, “Ruth’s passion for writing and using her voice to inspire hope. I’m looking forward to imparting that to my students so that they know they too have a powerful voice”, “A reminder that we can connect with our children through stories and that we must be intentional about creating spaces of belonging and safety” and “It was an eye opener for me. I will view poetry differently.”

The three winning schools in our competition were Kingsmead, who had the most participants. St Stithians Girls Prep and De La Salle each had the second highest number of participants. Congratulations to these 3 schools and heartfelt thank you to Ruth for her very generous book donation.

Our second webinar this year, ‘Exploring Contemporary Picture Books,’ was hosted by Makeda Phekani. Thank you Makeda for inspiring us all through the magic of books. Your vast knowledge around stories and picture books provided such insight and inspiration!
